About Hoofddorp.org.

An independent, editorially curated guide to Hoofddorp and the Haarlemmermeer — written to last for years, not to score on today's news.

Purpose

Hoofddorp.org exists to record what is lasting about Hoofddorp in a clear, accessible way: the history of the polder, how the town is built up, which districts it has, what living there is like and what amenities, landscape and culture are structurally available. We see this site as a reference work — a complete guide for those getting to know the town and those who have lived there for years and want to see the bigger picture.

We deliberately leave aside opening hours, prices and the daily diary. Other sources cover that. Our aim is for any page on this site to still be accurate ten years from now — because it describes what the town is, not what is happening this week.

Editorial principles

We work to a few simple principles. Evergreen: only information that holds structurally. Clear: short sentences, plain language, no jargon unless necessary. No advertising: we do not list individual businesses or hospitality venues that may close, and we are not paid to recommend anything. Where we do mention names — museums, dykes, pumping stations, infrastructure — these are places intrinsic to the town's identity.

We aim for factual accuracy. If you spot an inaccuracy, we welcome a short note via the contact page, with a brief reference to a better source. That way the guide can grow with the town.

Independence

Hoofddorp.org is not an official website of the municipality of Haarlemmermeer or any other government body. We work without commissions, sponsorships or editorial influence from public authorities. For official information — counter services, regulations, planning, permits — we refer to the municipality of Haarlemmermeer.

This editorial distance lets us describe the town as it is: a polder town with its own history, a distinctive urban structure and a pleasant everyday life, free from administrative communication priorities.
